Lodge Rifugio Barricata is located in the center of Piana di Marcesina, a large flat area of grassland surrounded by coniferous forests, one of the most densely European oasis of biodiversity, as identified by the European Community as a Special Area. During the summer you can walk along trails or mountain bike or trekking and horse riding, while in winter trails are transformed into a system of more than 200 km of cross country skiing and snowshoeing Piana di Marcesina is surrounded by peaks known for the events of the 1st World War: Mount Ortigara, Mont Fior and Cima Caldiera. Near Rifugio Barricata between Campo Capra di Sotto and Colle dei Colombi it is possible to visit the Dalmeri’s shelter, a prehistoric rock shelter dating from the Upper Paleolithic period used by prehistoric hunters.
